Obituary

Ethel Virginia "Susie" Rupert, 79, of Apollo, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 1, 2013. She was born Nov. 19, 1933, the daughter of the late Richard and Pauline (Reitz) Johns. Ethel was a member of the Spring Church Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was the wife of the late Leroy Rupert and together they had a love like no other. She had a passion for animals and animal science. She worked as a dog groomer, an assistant for Fox Veterinarian in Apollo and bred Westies. She was a photographic retoucher and an Avon consultant for many years. She was skilled at sewing and needlework. She enjoyed playing the organ and most of all loved her family. She is survived by a daughter, Cathy Hilty West, of Vandergrift; three grandchildren, Rebecca (James) Stevenson, of Butler, Brandon (Kristin) Hilty, of San Antonio, Texas, and Amanda (David) Smith, of Vandergrift; five great-grandchildren, Alex Lohman, Hope and A.J. Stevenson and Alyson and Aaron Hilty; two brothers, Donald Johns, of Blairsville, and Ivan Johns, of Piney Flats, Tenn.; her dog, Shasta, and two kittens, Bunny and Boots. She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Pauline Johns; a son, Terry Rupert; an infant son; a grandson, Michael Rupert; two brothers, Richard and Earl Johns; and one sister, Mary Alice Mathers. A private memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at the JANETTE L. GAMBLE FUNERAL HOME INC., 2842 River Road, Vandergrift, PA 15690, 724-567-7006, with Pastor Ludwig officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orphans of the Storm at 11878, Kittanning, PA 16201. A private memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013, at the JANETTE L. GAMBLE FUNERAL HOME INC., 2842 River Road, Vandergrift, PA 15690, 724-567-7006, with Pastor Ludwig officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Orphans of the Storm at 11878, Kittanning, PA 16201.
