James Russell Artman, 85, of Parks Township, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on June 23, 1940, in Leechburg, he was the beloved son of the late Everett and Mildred Lye Artman.
Throughout his career, Jim dedicated many years as a truck driver with Bremans Trucking and Nicholson’s Welding and Manufacturing until retiring in 2002. retiring in 2002 after a lifetime of hard work and commitment. His strong work ethic reflected the values he held dear throughout his life.
Jim had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in farming, hunting, fishing, and bird watching. One of his favorite pastimes was traveling to Amish country, where he appreciated the simple and serene way of life. Above all, Jim cherished the time spent with his family and extended relatives, who were truly the heart of his world.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Sarah Artman of Parks Township, and his sister Vivian Beers of Cabot. He also leaves behind two nephews, Reno Leeman of New York and Joel Leeman of Arizona, as well as an extended family that includes Marsha and Tom, Karen and Mike, Ronald and Tara, Doug and Debbie, Bob and Tracy, Bob and Amy, and their families. The Buchleitner family and the Amish family from Ohio were also close to him, alongside many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who held him in great esteem.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mildred Lye Artman, his sons James William and Timothy Thomas Artman and his brother William Artman. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Jim’s life on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Janette L. Gamble Funeral Home Inc., located at 2842 River Road, Vandergrift, PA 15690
In lieu of flowers Donations in the memory of Jim may be to Vandergrift Public Library.
Jim’s legacy of love, dedication, and connection to both family and nature will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate to know him. His quiet strength and gentle spirit have left an indelible mark on the community and all who crossed his path.
