Obituary

James Milton Rairigh, 61, of Allegheny Township, moved on to follow the promises and be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, after battling with cancer, while surrounded by family and friends. Jim was born February 23, 1955, in Natrona Heights. He was the son of the late Robert L. Rairigh Jr. and Eve R. (Dixon) Rairigh Elder. A graduate of Kiski Area High School in Allegheny Township, and National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. He was employed by Shop 'n Save Supermarkets in Duquesne and Plum Borough as a meat cutter and meat department manager. He also worked as a meat cutter for Giant Eagle Super Markets in Pittsburgh. He graduated from Pennsylvania State Police Southwestern training center municipal police. He worked as a police officer for Leechburg Police Department, PA Police Department. He was assigned to the Pennsylvania Attorney general's office as a narcotics agent while a member of the Parks Township Police Department. He retired as Chief of police in Parks Township, Armstrong County, in September 2002. Employed by ATI Flat Rolled Products, Brackenridge Plant, he enjoyed his career as security leader, director of ALS Ambulance Service, Fire Department and Hazardous Material, and Confined Space Rescue Teams. He was a member of Parks Township Fire Department, Parks Township Sportsman Club, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 39, and Pittsburgh Critical Incident Stress Management Team. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, wild flowers and gardening. Along with fishing, he had a passion for water fowl hunting while kayaking and raccoon hunting with his dogs, Jessie and Jennie. In Addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his Step-father Sidney E. Elder. Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 42 years, Diane M. (Kolakowski) Rairigh; sons, Mathew J. Rairigh, and Michael J. Rairigh and his wife Karen (Markitell) Rairigh of Pittsburgh and parents of his two grandchildren, Mia E. and Amelia P. Rairigh; his sister, Ethel Jane Stearman and husband John, of Kepple Hill, and brother, Glen R. Rairigh, of Washington Township; his aunt, Virginia L. Reichenbaugh, and husband Clayton, of Spring Church; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim had a long list of friends, including lifelong friends thought of as brothers, Michael J, Ciuca, and Robert J. Kuric Jr. Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with an F.O.P. service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016, and from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the JANETTE L. GAMBLE FUNERAL HOME INC., 2842 River Road, Vandergrift, PA 15690, 724-567-7006, with Executive Pastor Fred Neal officiating. Entombment will be at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jim's memory to the Heritage Hospice Legacy Fund. 2400 Leechburg Rd.
