John Chikar 89, of Apollo, passed away on March 23, 2026. Born on March 26, 1936, He was the son of the late John and Helen (Wood) Chikar.
After graduating from Apollo Area High School, John attended Carnegie Tech. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and he worked as a lab technician at PPG. He found deep pleasure in the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. He spent many hours reading old westerns, watching college football and playing computer flight simulators. He enjoyed building radios and a television in his younger years and often researched to expand his knowledge on topics that interested him throughout his life. He was a talented sketch artist and was always very fond of the VW beetle, motorcycles, and spaghetti.
John was a proud father to three daughters Laura Chikar of New Kensington, Lisa Chikar of Apollo, Linda (Mathew) Snyder of Ohio, and a beloved grandfather to Cassandra, Sean, Shannon, Brendan and one great grandchild Russell. He is also survived by his nephew Jim Chikar of Apollo and his niece Chris (Rob) Gibbons. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Roxy Chikar.
Family will be having a private burial at Riverview cemetery in Apollo with Vandergrift honor guard conducting full military honors.
