John Paul Lanning, born February 8, 1944, in New Kensington, passed away on September 1, 2026.
John retired from Allegheny Ludlum, and he found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures of life. He loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and he especially enjoyed time outdoors. Family and friends were central to his life, and those who knew him will remember the happiness he found in being with the people he loved most. Among his proudest accomplishments were his three boys, who remained a deep source of pride and love throughout his life.
John also shared a remarkable love story with his wife, Iris, his beloved wife of 64 years. Their devotion to one another was enduring, and their passing within days of each other speaks to the depth of the bond they shared. It is a love that will be remembered tenderly by all who knew them.
He is survived by his sons, Mathew Lanning and his wife Bonnie, Timothy Lanning, and Daniel Lanning and his wife Jacqueline. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Lanning; his sister, Jane Broda and by his grandchildren, Victoria Parson, Meighan Lanning, Justine Lanning, Samantha Robinson, Raven Lanning, and Gage Lanning. His memory lives on as well in his great-grandchildren, Isaiah Parson, Mayzie Parson, Eli Lanning, Brantley Martin, Beaux Martin, Bayla Lanning, Linkin Robinson, Dukota Lanning, Bryson Lanning, and Jaylin Lanning. Each of them carries forward the love, care, and kindness that shaped his family life and will continue to be felt for years to come.
He was preceded in death by his wife Iris Lanning, his father, John Lanning; his mother, Jennie (Knell) Lanning, a grandson Joshua Lanning.
Family and friends will be received for visitation on September 1, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Janette L. Gamble Funeral Home, 2842 River Road, Vandergrift, PA 15690. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Shallenberger officiating.
John Paul Lanning will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his devotion to his family, and the steady, faithful love he shared with Iris. His life leaves behind a legacy of family, warmth, and enduring affection.
John is survived by, his sons, Mathew Lanning and his wife Bonnie, Timothy Lanning and Daniel Lanning and his wife Jacqueline. He was preceded in death by his father, John and his mother, Jennie Lanning and his grandson, Joshua Lanning, Their memories remained part of his life and story, and now sheis reunited with those who went before him.
