Shaeffer
January 6, 1936 – December 24, 2022
Kenneth Dean Shaeffer, 86, of Apollo, passed away on December 24, 2022. He was born on January 6, 1936, and was the son of the late Arthur and Goldie (McGuire) Shaeffer. He was a graduate of Apollo High School. Ken was a Technical Sergeant Veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from the Kiski Valley Water Pollution Control Authority and attended the Spring Church Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ken's favorite pastimes were tinkering around the house and making repairs. He spent many hours sitting on his porch socializing with neighbors and doing crossword puzzles. Ken loved his family and friends and never hesitated to offer a helping hand.
Ken is survived by his four daughters: Ruth Shaeffer of North Apollo, Tenia (John) Torrey of North Carolina, Christine (John) Healy of Tarentum, and Fay (John) Gioia of North Carolina; his daughter-in-law, Vivian Shaeffer of North Apollo; three sisters, Virginia (Wayne) Madison of Spring Church, Nancy Quillen of Apollo, and Judy Rumbaugh of Spring Church; his brother, Donald Shaeffer of Apollo; eight grandchildren: Kristie, Shawon, Kyle, Katie, Richard, Britney, Melissa, and Megan; eleven great-grandchildren: Ashton, Seth, Brooklyn, Taylor, Ava, Caleb, Levi, Luke, Stella, Nova Jean, and Nevaeh.
In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Kesler) Shaeffer, his son, Kenneth Eugene Shaeffer; five sisters: Betty (McDermott), Imogene, Gereldean, Joann (Milanak), and Carol (Woods); and two brothers, Arthur and Richard.
Family and Friends will be received for a visitation on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the Janette L. Gamble Funeral Home 2842 River Road Vandergrift, PA 15690. A precession will immediately follow to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full Military Honors. Online condolences may be made at gamblefh.com.
