Sandra D. Caruthers, 73, of East Vandergrift, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2016.  Sandra was born January 21, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA; the daughter of the late Jerry and Fannie (Garvin) Henderson.  She is a member of the New Life Baptist Church of Apollo.  Sandra was an amazing women, she was a Deaconess and one of the mothers of the church, who loved her church family.  She had a passion for reading the bible, loved to cook and enjoyed listening to music.  Sandra was a 3rd grade school teacher in her home town of Philadelphia and also taught Home Economics there.  Sandra worked hard to raise her children and educate herself and her children; her smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew her.  Sandra leaves to cherish her memory her children, Pamela E. Caruthers of East Vandergrift, John A. Caruthers, Jr. of Philadelphia, Bertrand P. Caruthers of Vandergrift, one sister, Geraldine McFadden of Philadelphia, six Grandchildren, Alexsander, Nicholas, Tiffani, Bria, Bertrand Jr, Zion, and one great-grandchild; she also leaves to mourn other relatives, her church family and friends.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John A. Caruthers Sr., a brother Clifford Wallace, and a sister Shirley Garvin. Family and Friends will be received at the New Life Baptist Church of Apollo on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:00 am with the service following at 10:00 am with Pastor June Jeffries Officiating.
